Don’t Worry Darling (2022): Where Else Have You Seen The Cast?

Fans may recognize Pugh’s role as Dani in Midsommar, a folk-horror movie about a deteriorating relationship set during a Swedish Midsummer festival. Pugh reprised her role as Yelena Belova from Black Widow in the Disney+ show Hawkeye and he stars as Amy in Greta Gerwig’s Little Women.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY
Starring as Alice in Don’t Worry Darling, she questions her perfect society, wondering who her husband and friends truly are. She asserts herself to push boundaries and question if something else is out there. There is a power dynamic at play and Alice will be the one to level those imbalances. This character type is not new for Pugh, as she made herself familiar with characters that are mistakenly involved in false realities.
Harry Styles: Dunkirk

Most notable for his music career, Styles made his acting debut as Alex in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk. He appears during the mid-credit scene of Eternals where he plays Eros, Thanos’ brother. He is set to star in My Policeman based on the book of the same name. As projects slowly roll out, a determination is made that Styles has a niche for drama.

As Alice’s husband Jack, Don’t Worry Darling is Styles’ first major role. Jack is a part of the “Victory Project,” resembling a mission similar to that of the Capitol in The Hunger Games or The Truman Show, which is where Wilde attributes her inspiration. Jack is not the type to stir up trouble, perhaps in the pursuit of advancement in the Project.
Olivia Wilde: House

This genre is an unusual choice for Wilde, as she gained popularity and admiration as a director with her directing debut of Booksmart, a comedy/drama. She is most known for her role as Remy in the TV show House and she also appeared in 2010 Tron: Legacy as Quorra.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1535570269372-ccr3’); });

In Don’t Worry Darling, Wilde’s character of Mary is a wife who is just as much of a part of the “Victory Project” as the men and does not question their motives. Their plans to “change the world” are known only to those involved. Mary believes and convinces the wives to stay where it is safe and let the men work. She is the eyes on the inside – making sure the society stays in line for the Project to continue. This expansion as an actor and director will be an exciting take on a thriller, given Wilde’s experiences and creativity in comedy.
Nick Kroll: Oh, Hello On Broadway / Big Mouth

Standing by Mary, Nick Kroll’s character Bill is presumed to be her husband. Parks and Recreation fans will recognize Kroll from his role as “The Douche.” While his voice is popularly known for many roles in Big Mouth, he can also be on-screen on the Netflix recording of Oh, Hello On Broadway.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1535570269372-ccr4’); });

Knowing Kroll’s past projects, it is expected his role will be a bit of comedic relief. It will be interesting to see him in a light where a serious matter isn’t directly followed by a punchline. Comedy in thrillers is not new and more recently seen in movies by Jordan Peele and the revival of the Scream franchise. Wilde’s directing history in comedy/drama plays into this idea, as well. Kroll may help contribute to this streak while expanding his career into more dramatic roles.
Chris Pine: Star Trek (2009 – 2016)

From Nicolas in The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement to his portrayal of James Kirk in the Star Trek series, Chris Pine is friendly in the role of leader. He also portrayed Steve Turner in Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1535570269372-ccr5’); });

Pine can be seen as Frank in Don’t Worry Darling, the seeming leader of the Victory Project. Romcom and sci-fi fans alike will recognize Pine in this light, even with a genre change. He sits at the head of the table and presents a speech at a party – solidifying the idea he is of a higher position. Leaders have charm and charisma, and Pine’s work history shows he is familiar with these roles. His leadership of a cult-like group pushes a perfect vision of the town’s citizens. He is unafraid of Alice’s questions as he stands confident in his ideas and plans.
Gemma Chan: Eternals / Crazy Rich Asians

Gemma Chan’s portrayal of Astrid Leong from Crazy Rich Asians helped her skyrocket in popularity. Marvel fans will also recognize her as Minn-Erva from Captain Marvel, as well as Sersi from Eternals.
In Don’t Worry Darling, Chan is Shelley, a similar well-off socialite like her role as Astrid. Shelley is expected to be more haunting, however, as Frank’s wife is discreet in the knowledge she has of the project. She welcomes guests to the Victory Project and displays a worrisome face as Alice pushes for answers. Shelley seems to be satisfied with her life and role in the bubble of society. Chan has yet to work on a project in the capacity of a thriller, but her work stands as evidence that this departure is just another amazing chapter in Gemma Chan’s career.

Kiki Layne: Coming 2 America

Layne gained recognition with the 2021 movie Coming 2 America as Meeka Joffer, a sequel to the 1988 film starring Eddie Murphy. She is also known for her work as Bessie in Native Son and is seen in the drama film If Beale Street Could Talk.
As Margaret in Don’t Worry Darling, Kiki Layne will contribute nothing less than a phenomenal performance. Once someone questions a seemingly normal reality, people rightfully become distant from those contributing. Pushing away her husband’s hand indicates unhappiness with her life. Margaret is one of the wives to not accept life as it is and wonders about her place in the project. While little experience in this genre, her past work in drama proves her abilities and strengths. It is her chance to put them on full display for this genre.
Timothy Simmons: Veep

Simmons may be familiar to some as Jonah Ryan from the TV series Veep. In the same comedic vein, he starred alongside Melissa McCarthy in The Boss, where he played Stephan. Simmons can also be seen in the Hulu limited series, Looking for Alaska, where he played the headmaster nicknamed “The Eagle.”

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1535570269372-ccr-REPEAT7’); });

It is safe to speculate that his character Dean in Don’t Worry Darling is a stern-but-loving fatherly figure. A well-meaning and understanding character is a staple in thrillers, so this may not be too far off from the roles audiences have seen Simmons in before. His history in comedic roles contributes to this as well, as a bit of awkward “dad humor” is expected from the actor.
Douglas Smith: Big Love

Most known for his role as Ben Henrickson in HBO’s Big Love, Douglas Smith also played Tyson in the 2013 film Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters. He can be seen in Big Little Lies where he plays Corey, the co-worker turned lover of Shailene Woodley’s character in the second season.
Portraying John in Don’t Worry Darling, sensitive roles are nothing new to Smith. The audience can expect him to bring the urgency of the project. That the wives remain safely at home and allow the husbands to work to keep their society perfect. Smith shows a history of choosing drama-filled projects, and viewers don’t expect any less with this role.

Ari’el Stachel: The Band’s Visit / Zola

Ari’el Stachel captured the attention of many with his performance as Haled in The Band’s Visit during its 2016 Off-Broadway and 2017 Broadway run. In the film Zola, Stachel plays Sean, the fiancé of the eponymous character. He can be seen as Sergeant Khaldun in Law & Order: SVU.
Playing Kevin in Don’t Worry Darling, Stachel has his fair share of dramatic experience. A world built on the promise that everyone will keep a secret and contribute to the cause is one that is fragile. This only ensures a tightly bound environment destined to snap. Fans can expect Stachel to bring his knowledge of these characters to Kevin, as they will vouch for his talent in the genre.
